Instead of each county airport operating alone—competing for limited resources, offering uneven services, and staying largely invisible within the wider aviation sector—STAN connects them into a single regional system with shared infrastructure, a unified digital platform, a common aircraft fleet, and a coordinated pilot-training pipeline.

The problem

STAN is designed to solve three interconnected problems:

  • The Southern Tier lacks a coherent aviation identity that attracts pilots, flight schools, and aviation-adjacent industry.
  • Student pilots and flight instructors have no structured regional pathway from training to professional employment.
  • County airports operate without shared services, making each one more expensive and less capable than it needs to be.

The approach

STAN tackles all three issues at once through five integrated components: a nine-county airport network, a shared STAN aircraft fleet hangered at member airports, a unified digital platform with dynamic pricing and real-time incentives, structured flight school partnerships, and a full pilot career pipeline anchored to Sidney Aviation college, NY.

Beyond conventional general aviation, STAN is positioned as a national leader in electric aviation infrastructure through existing relationships with Joby Aviation and Beta Technologies, making the Southern Tier a candidate for the first fully electric-aviation-capable regional airport network in New York State and a designated FAA testing corridor for next-generation aircraft.
